1. Check whether the problem affects Outlook only
Open your organization’s Microsoft 365 webmail in a browser. If webmail works but desktop Outlook does not, the issue may be local to the Outlook app, profile or sign-in session. If webmail also fails, check your account or service status with your administrator.
2. Check connectivity and account prompts
Confirm that other secure websites load. Verify the device date and time. Complete any legitimate Microsoft sign-in or multifactor prompt directly through your organization’s approved sign-in page. Never share verification codes with an unsolicited caller.
3. Restart Outlook and inspect the error
Close Outlook completely and reopen it. Note whether it says Disconnected, Working Offline, Need Password, or shows a specific error. Check the Send/Receive tab for Work Offline before changing settings.
4. Avoid destructive fixes
Do not delete an Outlook data file, remove a mail profile, clear stored credentials, or uninstall Office until you know where mail is stored and whether local-only data has been backed up. Work accounts may require administrator approval.
